Self reliance

Refuge Egypt recognizes the need to help asylum seekers and refugees explore ways of honing their income-generating skills, so that they can sustain themselves for their time in Egypt and have skills for the future.

Vocational Training
We continue to explore and take advantage of training opportunities that enable self sufficiency.

Tukul Craft
Tukul is one of Refuge Egypt’s long term self-reliance projects. Tukul provides the opportunity for refugees to learn or use existing skills in designing or tailoring to earn an income. Tukul also supports a number of independent producers. Tukul Crafts are sold at local shops, bazaars and to overseas customers. Visit the Wadi shop at All Saints’ Cathedral to purchase Tukul items. Please also see the Tukul website for more informati and product photos: www.tukulcrafts.org

Housing Keeping Courses and Employment Office

We offer cleaning courses twice per month, with the aim of teaching participants all aspects of cleaning and hygiene to a high standard. The employment office operates as an agency for employers needing: domestic cleaners, cooks, gardeners, drivers, or child care providers.

Widows and Single Mothers

We aim to provide asylum seekers the opportunity to hone their talents and gifts, so they can have a means of earning a decent income, and provide for their families and dependents. These home-based business ventures allow women to work without leaving their children unattended. Small loans are given to women who have demonstrated that they can produce marketable crafts/goods to enable them to get their micro enterprise started.
