Psychosocial Support

After physical needs have been met, one of the biggest challenges refugees face in rebuilding their lives is the psychological trauma many have suffered. Addressing this trauma and the culture shock many refugees face in a new country is a priority for our Psychosocial Support Department.

Counselling
Training program for lay Christian counsellors; basic, intermediate, advanced levels. The course runs over a full year and students benefit from lectures by experienced professionals, case studies and role play to develop their skills. Counselling referrals from the Emergency Team and the medical Team. Support to Youth programs.

Psychosocial Support
We now have a trained psychosocial support worker who: takes referrals from the Emergency Team and the Medical Team, provides support to the youth programs, and plans community interventions to address social issues.

Conferences
Conferences offer opportunities for empowering and equipping individuals in dealing with the things that hinder their spiritual walk. Refuge Egypt supports a variety of family conferences and healing conferences.

"We are seeing the counselling training course turning into action as counselors are doing the work in the community. In that way it is effective - we train people from the community and then send them out there to do the work. That's something we hope for and it's happening. And it's something that's very encouraging for us".
